Donna Huanca is a multidisciplinary artist known for work that explores the human body and the natural world through painting, sculpture, performance, sound and immersive installation. Her works engage closely with the architectural spaces in which they are presented, creating unique sensory environments. Drawing on indigenous communication systems, she uses objects and materials as archives of memory and knowledge, turning each installation into a collective ritual that invites meditation and transformation. Since 2012 she has worked with performers, whose painted skins become an integral part of her compositions. Her abstract paintings extend the life of the performances, combining photographic images of bodies with oil pigments, sand and natural materials to create vibrant, textured surfaces. Donna Huanca is fascinated by cycles of birth, decay and rebirth, which she explores through the theme of bodily fluidity and terrestrial processes. She studied at the University of Houston and at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, receiving major recognitions such as the Fulbright grant and numerous international exhibitions, including at the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim, the Reina Sofía and the Rubell Collection.
