Bruno Ceccobelli

Bruno Ceccobelli is one of the leading figures of the Nuova Scuola Romana, the group of artists that emerged in the spaces of the former Pastificio Cerere in Rome at the end of the 1970s. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts under Toti Scialoja, he developed a highly personal practice combining painting, sculpture and spirituality.

His works are constructed as symbolic spaces, filled with references to alchemy, Eastern philosophies and the transformation of matter. Wood, geometric structures, signs and archetypal forms become instruments for creating images suspended between sacred architecture and inner vision.

Ceccobelli has participated several times in the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale, exhibiting in major museums and international collections. He continues to live and work in Umbria, pursuing an artistic practice that remains deeply distinctive and immediately recognisable.

Plastica Pesante resembles a symbolic machine assembled from fragments of architecture, geometric structures and mysterious signs. Its large vertical composition guides the viewer’s gaze upwards, as though the work were constantly reaching towards a spiritual dimension.

The muted shades of pink, blue and grey give the surface a surprising delicacy despite the monumental scale of the work. The columns, the small central element resembling a doorway or altar, and the large upper form recalling a fan or sacred canopy transform the wood into a mental space rather than a physical one.

Ceccobelli gives matter an almost ritual quality. The work is not simply observed. It seems to invite the viewer to move through it slowly, as though crossing a threshold.
