Arcangelo Sassolino

Arcangelo Sassolino is one of the most radical and experimental Italian artists on the contemporary scene. His work merges sculpture, mechanics and physics, giving rise to pieces in which matter and force confront each other in a precarious balance charged with tension. Steel, glass, concrete, hydraulic oil and pneumatic pressure are the elements with which he builds sculptures that breathe, flex, explode, vibrate.
Sassolino investigates the limits of resistance: that of materials, but also that of the viewer's own perception, bringing sculpture into a temporal, performative dimension. His works are not merely objects, but physical and emotional experiences. He has exhibited in international venues and events such as the Venice Biennale, the Palais de Tokyo, MART and the Frankfurter Kunstverein.

This work by Sassolino is a material fragment in which concrete and steel merge into a form that is both organic and brutalist. The surface undulations, almost fluid, seem to emerge from an inner energy, as if the material had undergone pressure, impact, a controlled deformation.
The irregular edges and the glossy finish of the surface heighten the contrast between force and fragility, between what was sculpted and what occurred through reaction.
