Peter Zimmermann

Peter Zimmermann is a German artist known for his original investigation into the digital image and the materiality of contemporary painting. Starting in the 1990s, Zimmermann moved away from figuration to devote himself to abstract works made with resins and coloured pigments, applied to flat surfaces in fluid layers.
His creative process starts from digital images - 3D mapping, visual icons, pop or architectural references - which are transformed, distorted, filtered and finally translated into painting. The result is a hyper-glossy, liquid surface, where colour, light and transparency become the protagonists of a new aesthetic of the virtual.
His works are exhibited around the world and represent a sharp reflection on the hybridisation of art, technology and perception.

In Soda, Peter Zimmermann builds a fluid, hypnotic visual surface, in which fields of colour seem to float in a space without gravity. Tones of fuchsia, grey and white layer and blend into iridescent transparencies, creating an effect of optical depth and sensory lightness.
The work is the result of a refined digital process, in which the starting image is altered until it becomes pure abstraction. But what makes the work unique is its material quality: the resin, applied with skilled control, gives rise to glossy, perfectly smooth surfaces that reflect light like liquid screens.
Soda needs no subject: it is itself an experience. Zimmermann invites us to lose ourselves in the visual softness of the painting, among slow waves and blurred forms, in an almost musical contemplation.
