Duo founded in Naples by Stella Scala (1964, Naples) and Simeone Crispino (1962, Frattaminore, Naples)

Vedovamazzei is one of the most original and experimental artist duos on the Italian contemporary art scene. Active since the 1990s, their work spans different languages - painting, installation, sculpture, photography, drawing - constantly questioning the identity of the artwork and the role of the viewer.

With an ironic, sophisticated and often disorienting eye, Stella Scala and Simeone Crispino create ambiguous, poetic visions that reveal the fragility of perception and the absurdity of everyday life. Present in numerous international exhibitions and public collections, Vedovamazzei carry forward research that combines conceptual rigour with visual emotion, making each work a small open-ended enigma.

In this Untitled work from 2006, Vedovamazzei build an interior that escapes the logic of the domestic to become a mental landscape. A seemingly ordinary setting - a room with pastel walls, a red bench, vases and foliage - is transfigured by an overlay of transparent plants, which invade the space like memories, like overlapping traces of different times.
The walls resemble abstract wallpaper, the floor breaks apart into coloured patterns, and the plants - at once real and immaterial - become silent presences, almost vegetal ghosts.
The work is a poetic reflection on the coexistence of nature and artifice, of the built and the organic, of intimacy and disorientation. Vedovamazzei invite us into a space where nothing stands still, where even the simplest interior becomes a theatre of the mind.
